Sound familiar?

You love the music โ€” you just can't join in yet

โœฆYou love kirtan and bhajan, but you're stuck clapping or just listening while others keep the rhythm.
โœฆYou'd love to play along, but tabla looks impossibly complicated โ€” like it would take years.
โœฆYou wonder if you're "too old," or that it's "not for you" because you weren't born into it.
โœฆYou've tried apps and random YouTube videos before, and nothing ever quite stuck.
The real reason you're stuck

It's not your age. It's not your fingers. It's that no one taught you the rhythm side.

Most people who love kirtan were never shown the simple patterns underneath it. You don't need fast hands or years of classical training. You need a steady base rhythm and a handful of patterns you can actually use.

Devotional singing is about participation, not perfection. One steady rhythm is all it takes to start playing along.

Prashant

Tabla & dholak ยท bhajan accompaniment specialist

I've spent 25 years on tabla and over 1,000 hours playing bhajans on stage in India and the US, accompanying senior artists. Bhajan and kirtan accompaniment is what I've built my life around.

  • Performs internationally as a bhajan & kirtan accompanist
  • Nearly 10,000 followers across YouTube & Instagram, where I break down tabla in plain terms
  • Teaches Western, everyday language โ€” no overwhelm, no gatekeeping

"I wasn't born in India either โ€” and I play better than most musicians there. Tabla and dholak belong to anyone willing to learn them."

Common questions

Before you join

Am I too old to learn? My fingers aren't fast anymore.
You don't need fast fingers to play in kirtan and bhajan. Keeping a steady base rhythm is all this asks of you โ€” and that's something you can absolutely do at any age.
I'm not Indian. Is this really for me?
Yes. Prashant wasn't born in India either, and plays better than most musicians there. Tabla and dholak belong to anyone willing to learn them โ€” your background doesn't decide whether you can play.
Tabla looks impossibly complicated. Could I really get good enough?
It isn't the easiest instrument, but even understanding the basics can transform the bhajans and kirtans you take part in. You don't have to become advanced to make a real difference in the music.
I don't have time to practice for hours every day.
You don't need hours. A few short sessions a week, replaying the module you're working on, is enough to make real progress.
Can I really learn this online, without a teacher in person?
Most people can โ€” the courses are built to work fully on their own. And if video-only isn't your style, the private mentorship gives you direct, personal guidance.
I don't own a tabla or dholak. Which should I buy?
The course covers what to look for in both. If you're unsure where to start, dholak is often the easier first instrument โ€” gentler learning curve and lower cost.
Is it loud? Will my family or neighbors mind?
Tabla is moderate in volume, not as loud as a drum kit. If it's an issue, lowering the pitch quiets it noticeably, and there are gentle ways to dampen the sound with cloth, which we cover later.
What if I quit halfway? I've started courses before and not finished.
The trick is using what you learn right away. As soon as you pick up something new, try it with a real bhajan or kirtan. Live application keeps the motivation real and the progress visible.
Will I actually be able to play at my temple or circle after this?
Yes โ€” that's exactly what this is built for. The basic 6-beat and 8-beat patterns you'll learn are the foundation of most bhajan and kirtan accompaniment.
Why is the starter only $47? What's the catch?
No catch. It's priced this way so anyone who's curious can take the first step into bhajan and kirtan rhythm without hesitation.
Why a waitlist instead of buying now?
We're opening enrollment to founding members first, at a discount, for a short window. Joining the waitlist locks the founding-member price and puts you first in line when the doors open.
